Folk Singing Surveys

An important part of Access Folk is to understand the experience of existing folk singers in England and the various settings where it takes place. We will soon launch two surveys that will help us to answer these questions and to shape the future of the research project.

Please sign up to the Newsletter below to receive news when these surveys are launched.

This survey will ask questions about people's participation in folk singing. The questions will draw on an older survey of folk singing in England by Niall MacKinnon in 1993 and standard survey questions used by audience researchers. The survey will be supplemented with interviews with a smaller group of people.

This survey will gather information about folk clubs, concert venues and other settings for folk singing in England. It will focus on the period just before the first pandemic lockdown. The survey will allow individuals, organisations, and venues to add and edit information about events they arranged or attended across England in January and February 2020.
